We are looking to hold a competition soon and would love to get some ideas on the types of contests you would want to take part in. e.g. posting contest, raffle draw etc.

The more creative and original, the better.

Thank You.

1. Caption contest
2. Best MS Paint drawing
3. Forum Banner competition
4. Forum Slogan contest

Those are the things I thought of on top of my head. I'll get back to you when I thought of other games/competitions. :)

Thanks for the ideas, one or two from there I will definitely be considering.

Keep the ideas coming. Also, don't forget to suggest possible prizes.

Found this one. Predict the number of total posts as shown at the bottom of the page by a set date, say 1 month, with only one week to make your prediction with the condition that a personal number of posts say 5 or many more, must be made in that competition period to win the Fantastic prize. Now this would keep me looking in after the prediction cut off date to follow the total post tally.

That's a great idea. I quite like that.

We will be holding a contest early June, around the time when we hit 10k posts.

Definitely like the picture caption contest, perhaps also have a "find the thing" contest where users find hidden things in your code(unicorns, narwhals, etc :P)

Some great ideas definitely.

Do you mean a treasure hunt?
It's a good idea, may use as a small contest on the side The main contests I may do something to do with social networks because it would also help the promote the forum.

What does everyone think of this idea?
A draw made at the end with about 2 winners. Entries into the draw can be obtained by Tweeting us, Facebooking us or posting on Google+ about GT, each of these would count as 1 entry and each can be done once a week or every 'x' amount of days and the closing time would be when we reach a certain amount of posts.

One or two other contests to run as well but on a small scale.

Still kind of confusing to me but the basic idea is good. Treasure hunt is clear. About the draw, so you want members to post a certain entry through Twitter or Facebook or Google+? Until certain amount of posts, what exactly does it mean?

You would simply post a message on Twitter, Facebook and Google+ and each would count as one entry into the draw, this can be done once a week on each social network, with maximum of 3 entries in one week. The draw is then done once we hit 'x' amount of posts on the forum, this would have been decided when the contest starts.

The main contest is not yet decided so keep the suggestions coming.

The bring me game.

Ask members to find something on the net, and the best post will win. For example: "Bring me the cutest cat gif." or "Bring me the funniest video ever."

Winners can be chosen by you or the viewers (most liked post).

Ah, okay, I see. That sounds quite great for me, I think we can give it a try. What we need to decide on next would be the content of the message, if everyone agrees, right? ^^

Sounds pretty fun! You can also combine it with "Give caption to this picture!" or "What do you think the dog in this video would say?" or something like that and make a poll for fun. XD

If I may recommend, a posting contest of some sort really does help a forum out a lot. I don't think it should be one of those "ready, set, go" type of posting contests and that the one who started first normally gets the advantage.

Here's an idea. Why not do say, a raffle contest that for every 10 posts a user makes, they get to select a number 1-100. When all the numbers are picked, you draw one randomly. You could limit it so that maybe every use is allowed up to 10 raffle entries or something, I don't know.

Just a thought.

I'm liking that idea and the limit would work as well. Maybe maximum of 2-3 every day or 15-20 every week.
The contest could go on until we hit a certain amount of posts or for a month.

Your limit idea is even better. That's what I would do. Except don't make it last forever. I'd do a month

Interesting idea, I support it too! That would be fun to do. Limitation is obviously needed, I like Teekay's idea although 15-20 numbers per week(?) is a bit too big, maybe. Still I think this will be an interesting contest. :D

We could have a daily limit of about 2 or a weekly limit of about 10, bearing in mind that the contest will run for about 3-4 weeks.

I'd say depending on the number of active members, start with maybe offering 100 tickets up, where you can earn maybe 5-10 a week and you can redeem a ticket for every 5 posts (keep it simple - want to attract new members).
